Burning at the Stake : Song

Burning at the Stake is a poignant song that offers a glimpse into the thoughts and emotions of Joan of Arc as she faces her execution. The lyrics vividly portray her unwavering faith and inner strength despite the tragic circumstances.

The song opens by placing the listener directly in Joan's perspective, capturing her resilience and spiritual conviction as she stands on the pyre. The verses depict her reflections on her divine visions and her sense of mission, highlighting her courage and dedication to her cause.

The chorus amplifies the emotional intensity, emphasizing the themes of martyrdom and sacrifice. Through powerful imagery and evocative language, the lyrics convey the agony of her final moments and her steadfast belief in her heavenly guidance.

Joan of Arc

Joan of ArcJoan of Arc, also known as Jeanne d'Arc, was a French peasant girl born around 1412 in the small village of Domrémy, in northeastern France. From a young age, she claimed to have received visions and heard voices from saints instructing her to support Charles VII and help liberate France from English domination during the Hundred Years' War.

In 1429, at the age of 17, Joan convinced Charles VII of her divine mission. She was given command of an army and led French forces to a crucial victory at the Siege of Orléans, which marked a turning point in the war. Her success boosted French morale and paved the way for Charles VII's coronation as King of France in Reims.

Despite her military achievements, Joan was captured by the Burgundians, allies of the English, in 1430. She was handed over to the English and put on trial for charges including heresy and witchcraft. In a politically motivated trial, Joan was found guilty and burned at the stake on May 30, 1431, in Rouen. She was only 19 years old.

Joan of Arc's legacy endured long after her death. In 1456, a posthumous retrial declared her innocent and a martyr. She became a symbol of French unity and nationalism. In 1920, Joan was canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church, solidifying her status as one of history's most revered and inspirational figures.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
In a land torn by war, where shadows hide the light,
I heard the call from heaven, to rise and join the fight,
With armor clad and banner high, I rode into the fray,
A maiden led by visions, to drive the dark away.

[Chorus]
Burning bright, in the flame,
Joan of Arc, you'll know my name,
Sword in hand, my faith won't break,
Even if I burn at the stake.

[Verse 2]
Through the fields of battle, I led the soldiers on,
With every step, a miracle, until the dawn had come,
Captured by betrayal, they chained me to my fate,
But even fire can't silence me, or smother all my faith.

[Chorus]
Burning bright, in the flame,
Joan of Arc, you'll know my name,
Sword in hand, my faith won't break,
Even if I burn at the stake.

[Verse 3]
In the heart of fire, my spirit never dies,
A beacon for the ages, a light that never lies,
Through the smoke and ashes, my legacy will grow,
The girl who heard the angels, in history will glow.

[Chorus]
Burning bright, in the flame,
Joan of Arc, you'll know my name,
Sword in hand, my faith won't break,
Even if I burn at the stake.

[Chorus]
Burning bright, in the flame,
Joan of Arc, you'll know my name,
Sword in hand, my faith won't break,
Even if I burn at the stake
